Thanks for confirming that I can no longer lend a book on kindle especially since the directions all explain how to do it. Looking did the lend option made me feel crazy. I appreciate you.
Certainly not happy about this. Some kindle books have even become more expensive than getting a paperback. They promoted lending a book in the beginning to convince people to use the kindle instead of paper books that could be loaned to friends over and over. Definitely not a plus for kindle, after all, it was only one loan, definitely not hurting authors. Once again, about The corporate bottom line.
They are making the Kindle and Kindle books less friendly. I haven't updated my Kindles, or connected to the internet with them as ONE of my Kindles got the new update and I absolute hate how that Kindle functions. I didn't buy it to function that way and now they made my Kindle work the way they want, not the way I want and the way I bought it working. So I guess it is not MY Kindle, this is more of the same. I bought the Kindle ebook as a lendable book and they then change the functioning of a product that I bought only, I didn't buy it, only the use of their version of it, it is not a book. We can swap Kindles and read each others books if we are hard up right? *sigh* I really hate Amazon today.
To my memory, the ability to loan Kindle books was not an original feature. Rather, it was something requested by customers in the early days of the device. Many of us felt uneasy with the ‘limited rights’ nature of digital book ownership. The licensing was too restrictive. We felt we should be able to lend our ebooks just like we lend our physical books. I even thought two weeks was chintzy. What difference does it make how long someone has my book if I can’t read it while they have access to it? The lending feature should remain. Amazon protects its profits. We need to protect our consumer rights.
The inability to read ebooks on the Kindle will be next 😂

Too bad, sounded like a great feature but never heard of it before. Wish my Tolino would allow that. I have only family sharing where I can share my books but it is restricted per household.

The ability to sample books is a much better way to try out new books. The samples are generally long enough to highlight bad writing and other drawbacks that determine whether I want a book or not. Lets hope they don't discontinue that.

Any word on when they will send out review units of the Kindle Scribe, or do they send them randomly? I remember years ago when I got my first Kindle (the one with the keyboard – not the first one – the one with the round buttons) they had the feature to share ebooks with friends but never used it. I had forgot about it.
I never heard of this, how can they not tell us… It would make people be willing to pay for books because there can be m0re use for them. I would also would have loved to lend books to my friends online
