Good movies, but it's hard for me to see this without SOME representation of the old school. Take your pick from:
Cabinet of Dr Caligari/Nosferatu (the cradle)
Frankenstein/Bride of Frankenstein (Boomer late night staples)
Horror of Dracula (The British realized that actual blood – and cleavage – went well with vampires and crumbling castles. That, and if your image of Christopher Lee is Count Douku or Saurumon, you're in for a surprise)
Psycho
Night of the Living Dead (or maybe Dawn of the Dead if you really hate B&W, though I understand that's a bit difficult to find)
