It’s amazing to see how strong the 2026 K-drama lineup is on Netflix and Disney+. The variety of romance, thrillers, fantasy, crime, and historical dramas shows how global Korean storytelling has become.
Seeing Disney+ investing heavily in K-dramas makes me think about another major Asian storytelling milestone — *Astro Boy (= Astro Boy Atom = Wuju Sonyun Atom = Atom = Mighty Atom = Iron Arm = Iron Arm Atom = Cheolwan Atom = Tetsuwan Atomu = Atomu)* created by Osamu Tezuka, often called “the Walt Disney of Asia.”
The Astro Boy series was:
* Asia’s first long-form comic (1952)
* Asia’s first full-length TV animation (1963)
* One of the world’s earliest and most influential sci-fi fairy-tale animations
Long before Big Hero 6 or Meet the Robinsons, Astro Boy was already telling emotional stories about coexistence between humans and robots.
Like Big Hero 6, Astro Boy explores friendship between humans and advanced technology — but it also dives deeper into ethical dilemmas about artificial life, discrimination, and identity.
Although Tezuka’s copyright remains protected until 2059 (70 years after his passing in 1989), there is another possibility: the upcoming 3D Astro Boy reboot (co-produced by Mediawan/Method, Shibuya, and Tezuka Productions) reportedly planned for 2027.
Since Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir (produced by Zagtoon and Mediawan) successfully streams on Disney platforms despite not being Disney-owned, perhaps Astro Boy could follow a similar path.
With Disney+ expanding global content — including Korean dramas — Astro Boy would also be a meaningful bridge between Asian animation history and Disney’s worldwide audience.

For a channel that is all about K-drama do the courtesy of learning how to pronounce Korean words! It is extremely cringey when you butcher the name of the actors & actresses especially when describing the show like for example the word Joseon is two syllables not three (Joseon is Chosun). Otherwise here’s a suggestion, just use subtitles and don’t do voiceovers. Thank you.
