I feel that it’s ok to alter the story a bit. It’s interesting to think about how the maesters changed or altered the actual story. Maybe it was simply not documented. . Maybe those who don’t know, tell and those that know, won’t.

In all fairness to GRRM and the writers of both HOTD and AKOTSK….. Ones a sprawling epic with hundreds of characters and moving parts, just like GOT-ASOIAF….. The other is a three part novela… Streamlined, more jollier in tone, and one that focuses primarily on chivalry, and bravery. So yeah, ones a chore to adapt, the other can be done so in everyone's sleep.

Completely agree with GRRM frustrations with HOTD writing changes. You see how much people love AKOTSK and that is as faithful as you can be.
I think making them 'friends' in season 1 instead of the greens just being bc of an evil step mother is better, and I do think that makes the changes to make the story more emotional instead of just evil women is a good change.
