American healthcare is a joke
Wow, that's quite a bit. Here in Ontario Canada, I pay $300 a year in health coverage, which is calculated into our taxes, so we only have to claim it on our tax returns as a payable. The broken bones, tonsil removal and treatment is covered under that as well as any other surgery (under age 25, prescriptions are free as well). It's definitely not perfect by any stretch, taxes are high because of it. The main problem though is that the emergency rooms get pretty crowded, mostly by people who really shouldn't be there (non-emergency) so there's that, but I'll take that over a $7000 bill any day.

Health insurance in foreign countries is not needed. As an American, i have learned that its best just to illegaly enter someones country, rack up a $300,000 medical bill and then flee back to your home country and stick the tax payers with the bill.

You should have the healthcare like in the Netherlands. 140 dollar a month, covers everything with a own risk of 385 euro (once time a year). There are also insurances for the whole family which cost around 250 dollar, but covers your childeren and husband also.

I have heard of the international DL but I have never had issues with my American DL. I have rented cars in South America, NZ, Tahiti, Russia, Japan, Iraq, Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Libya, Senegal and a few others that I don't remember without ever being asked about international DL. In which countries have had that request? (I was working for Coke back then)
